Commercial Pest Control & Management Services

Pest Prevention and Contract Support Across Somerset, Devon and Dorset

Protect Your Business, Stock and Reputation

A pest problem can disrupt daily operations, damage goods and affect the confidence of customers, staff and tenants. Smyth Pest Control provides commercial pest treatments, planned monitoring and prevention advice tailored to your premises.

Based in Wadeford near Chard, our independent, family-run business is led by Warren Smyth. With over 25 years’ experience and BPCA membership, you speak directly to the person investigating and treating the problem.

Whether you need help with an active infestation or an ongoing contract, we explain the proposed work, access arrangements and follow-up. Clear inspection and treatment reports help you keep a record of pest-management activity and recommended actions.

Call Warren on 01460 261615 to arrange a commercial site survey and quote. Tell us about any customer-facing areas or operational restrictions so we can discuss suitable visit arrangements.

One-off treatments and ongoing pest control contracts

Every business and building is different. We recommend a service based on the pest activity, the layout of your premises and the risks identified during inspection.

One-off pest treatments

If you have noticed droppings, scratching noises, insect activity or damage to stock, we can investigate and recommend an appropriate treatment programme.

A one-off treatment programme may involve several visits, depending on the pest and the extent of the problem. We explain the proposed visits, costs and follow-up arrangements before work begins.

Commercial Pest Control Contracts in Somerset

For businesses that need regular support, we provide planned inspections and monitoring, with treatment and prevention recommendations where required.

The visit schedule and areas covered are agreed following a survey. Regular checks can help identify activity early, highlight access points and keep pest management under review as your business changes.

Is pest control a legal requirement for food businesses?

Yes. Food businesses in England are legally required to have adequate procedures in place to control pests and protect food from contamination. This applies to businesses such as pubs, restaurants, cafés, takeaways and commercial kitchens.

Regulation (EC) 852/2004, Annex II, Chapter IX states: “Adequate procedures are to be in place to control pests.”

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) advises businesses to check their premises regularly for signs of pests, inspect deliveries, maintain buildings in good repair and keep waste areas clean and secure.

At Smyth Pest Control, we help food businesses across Somerset, Dorset and Devon manage these responsibilities through regular pest monitoring, detailed inspection reports and practical advice on prevention and proofing. If activity is identified, we recommend appropriate treatment and follow-up action.

How we work

1. Inspect and investigate

We look for evidence of pest activity, likely entry points, food sources and harbourage areas. Where accessible, this may include kitchens, storage areas, service voids, bin stores, outbuildings and external areas.

2. Explain the findings and treatment options

We discuss what we have found and recommend a suitable approach. This may include treatment, trapping, monitoring, proofing or changes to waste storage and housekeeping.

We explain any preparation, access requirements and precautions relevant to the proposed work.

3. Treat and monitor

We carry out the agreed treatment and assess progress during any scheduled follow-up visits. The approach is reviewed against the findings, rather than simply repeating the same treatment.

4. Help prevent further problems

We provide practical advice on entry points, maintenance, food storage and waste management. Where repairs or proofing are needed, we explain the recommended work and who is responsible for arranging it.

Treatment reports and practical recommendations

Clear records help you understand what has been done and what still needs attention.

Our treatment reports record relevant findings, work carried out, products used where applicable, and recommendations for follow-up or prevention.

If your business has particular reporting or inspection requirements, tell us when requesting a survey so we can discuss the documentation you need.

Recurring rats? Investigate how they are getting in

Repeated rat activity may indicate an unresolved entry route.

At a block of flats in Chard, residents reported rat problems continuing for six to eight years despite previous pest control visits. On our second visit, we identified drainage connections providing routes into the property.

We investigated the drainage and fitted one-way rat blocker valves to the identified connections. These allow wastewater to flow out while helping prevent rats travelling back through the protected pipework.

Where appropriate, CCTV drain surveys can help investigate recurring rat problems and guide preventative work.
